Chapter 24.

SHE still did not trust him. Two days had passed since the moment she’d woken in his bed, and Adric knew she had not grown to trust him even the slightest.

He often caught her eying him like she expected him to turn on her, or to push her away. He did not know if it was because of what she had gone through or because of something else. He told himself to be patient, that it would simply take her time to adjust. To feel secure with him.

He was free to spend those two days with her, but on the third another meeting of the Daharana and Equan was called. Galaosis, one of the cities the ancient Dardaptoans of Evelanedea were occupying had faced a small attack. Thrun was expected to be next.

Thrun, one of the cities with the most females and young. It was up to the Adrastos warriors to protect it.

As his mate, Miranda was entitled to be at the meeting. He had not told her of the summons, or her place at it. He was half afraid to. So much was coming that was going to be bad in nature. Could he be blamed for wanting to shelter his Rajni from as much of it as possible?

He put it off until after she’d spent her nearly two hours in the bathing room. She loved the tub, and had taken four baths in three days. When he’d asked her, all she could say was that it was far better than the Demon River. That she finally felt clean again. She’d broken his heart with those simple words.

He hadn’t questioned her the habit again. He just hoped that maybe one day soon she would allow him in the bath with her. He spent several moments fantasizing about exactly that.
