Entropy is the principle of thermodynamics that says everything around us is decaying. While that doesn’t seem uplifting, I think, in some ways, entropy is a concept full of hope—because at its core, entropy is the promise that life, literally all matter in the universe, will continue to change.

The root of the word entropy comes from the Greek trope, which means “change,” and trepein, “to turn.” No matter how truly wonderful or deeply terrible life feels right now, know that it will change and turn—because it must.
