One Step at a Time

Nothing You Walk Through Is Wasted

  1. Consider starting a journal of all you’ve walked through. Chart your journey, positive and negative. What were some of the hardest things you’ve ever faced? What are some of the things you are facing right now?
  2. Find a quiet place and ask the Holy Spirit to help you remember things you may have buried. If your pain came from abuse in your childhood, it may be wise to walk through this part of your journey with a Christian counselor.
When Christian was a little boy his dad gave him a child’s craft project that included bits of smooth glass and stone. My son didn’t think anything beautiful could be made with broken things until they began to lay them out in cement in a heart mold. The finished piece is beautiful. It’s one of my most treasured possessions. Have you ever considered doing something like that? Find a craft store and look for a project that is hands-on, making something lovely out of broken things. One of my core beliefs is that it’s amazing what God will do with a broken life if you give Him all the pieces.
  3. If you’re struggling to identify areas where you felt alone, ask God for help with this. Begin by meditating on this promise:

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5 NIV)
