How sweet this is!
Makes 8 servings.
10 slices cinnamon-raisin bread, cut into pieces, about 5 cups
14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 eggs, beaten
Yogurt or crème fraiche
1. Spray the inside of the slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray. Place bread cubes inside.
2. Mix milk, water, vanilla, and eggs, and pour over the chunks of bread, gently stirring with a wooden spoon to coat the bread with the milk mixture. Cook on Low for 21/2 to 3 hours.
3. Serve warm with a dollop of yogurt or crème fraiche.
Variations:
To reduce the sweetness, you can substitute a thick bread like Challa or a thick-cut white bread for the cinnamon raisin bread. Add 1/4 to 1/2 of a teaspoon of cinnamon to the milk mixture.
For added flavor and texture, add a half-cup of dried currants.
