Cranberry Pear Cider

This cider blend is less sweet than a more traditional apple cider, and the cranberries add a refreshing tartness. When the flavors have a chance to meld during the slow cooking, the result is a rich, earthy brew.

Makes 4 to 6 servings.

12 cups pear cider

4 cups cranberry juice cocktail (highest quality)

Sections from 2 oranges, peeled and all peel and pith removed

1 cup cranberries, rinsed and picked over

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Shot of hot cinnamon schnapps, optional

1. Combine pear cider and cranberry juice in the slow cooker. Stir, and add orange segments, cranberries, and cinnamon. Cook on Low for 3 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally.

2. When ready to serve, remove orange segments, and scoop out cooked cranberries with a slotted spoon.

3. Ladle into mugs, and add a shot of hot cinnamon schnapps if desired.
