Now this is what Santa really wants when he makes it down the chimney! A totally decadent drink, this is one to serve by the fire on a night when a snowstorm is blowing outside—or when the kids are finally asleep.
Makes 6 to 8 servings.
16 cups warm water
4 cups dark brown sugar
1 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 teaspoon salt
4 cinnamon sticks
8 whole cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup dark rum (or to taste)
Eggnog for topping
1. Pour water into the crock pot. Add the brown sugar and stir until thoroughly combined. Stir in butter, salt, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and nutmeg. Cook on Low for 3 to 4 hours, or until the butter has melted and the mixture is quite hot.
2. When ready to serve, stir in the dark rum. Ladle into mugs, and top with eggnog if desired.
