These are fun to make for any kind of party, but you can count on them being very well received over the holidays. They are also great after-school snacks for hungry teenagers. The best hot dogs are those made from grass-fed meat.
Makes 10 to 12 party servings.
2 pounds all-beef hot dogs
1 pound thick-cut bacon
Honey to drizzle
1. Slice hot dogs in half crosswise. Separate the bacon slices and cut them in half crosswise, as well. Wrap each hot dog half with a bacon strip, and fasten with toothpicks at the top and bottom.
2. Layer the wrapped hot dogs in the slow cooker, drizzling each layer lightly with honey. Repeat layers until hot dogs run out.
3. Cover and cook on Low for 2 to 3 hours. Remove with tongs, slice into bite-sized pieces, and put a toothpick into every piece to secure the bacon and make for easy eating.
Variation:
For thicker bites, replace the hot dogs with kielbasa. You’ll need to cut the sausage into 3- to 4-inch pieces as well as slicing it in half crosswise.
