This sauce is a liqueur-infused berry topping. This sauce is a winner on these and other desserts: brownies, chocolate cake, ice cream, pound cake, cheesecake, angel food cake, granola, and of course, fresh fruit. Or make extra and give it as gifts.
Makes about 2 cups.
1 pound fresh strawberries, tops removed
6-oz package fresh blueberries
6-oz package fresh raspberries
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup orange-flavored liqueur
Grated peel and juice of 1 medium orange (seeds removed)
Non-stick cooking spray
1. Spray 31/2- to 4-quart slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray.
2. In a large bowl, combine the fruits, sugar, liqueur, grated peel, and orange juice. Stir thoroughly.
3. Transfer to slow cooker, cover, and cook on Low for 5 to 6 hours or on High for 2 to 3 hours until thickened. Check the consistency with about 1 hour of cooking time left to be sure you don’t overcook it.
