10. AREA RUG AND SEAMLESS BACKDROP

How do you secure the leading edge of background paper in your studio? Most just tape it down. Some use three or four short strips, others tape the entire edge. Using 9 feet of gaffer’s tape at a time adds up, and, while that tape will not leave any residue when it’s pulled up, it is expensive.

An inexpensive and durable solution is to buy a 7×9-foot area rug. It’s easy to slide the edge of the paper under it and hold it in place. A side benefit is that your subjects can wipe their feet before stepping on the paper. Your backgrounds will last a lot longer.
