Are There “Bad Carbs”?

Typically when someone talks about “bad carbs,” they are referring to sugary, processed carb sources. These are things like candy, soda, fruit juice, or just about anything else that’s sweet, delicious, and comes from a box, and often people like to blame sugar for their problems. The truth is, all carbohydrates are made up of simple sugar molecules.

When fully broken down by your body’s digestive system, carbohydrates are made up of either glucose or fructose, two simple sugar molecules. It doesn’t matter if you get 40 grams of carbs from cake or from brown rice; those 40 grams of carbs will eventually end up as simple glucose molecules, the same as sugar.
