What actually causes you to grow new muscle?
While protein plays a role in muscle growth, it’s only a small part of the picture. Muscle growth, or hypertrophy, is the combined result of heavy resistance training that’s performed consistently over a long period of time and excess caloric intake. If you’re eating more than you need, getting adequate protein, and training your muscles with the appropriate intensity, you’ll slowly start to gain more muscle. It doesn’t happen simply from increasing your protein intake, so you won’t accidentally get too big or anything.
