JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI
SATURDAY IN APRIL
WWW.GATHERINGONTHEGREEN.ORG
Jackson, Mississippi, is holding on to the tradition of hosting events on the old capitol green, which Mississippians have been doing for the past 180 years. Gathering on the Green is held on the only remaining green space on the lawn of the city’s oldest building. This event promotes all that the city of Jackson has to offer in history and the arts. It’s a family-friendly event where the locals can pack up their picnic baskets and enjoy a day on “the city’s front yard.”
The celebration begins on a Saturday morning in April, and the fun continues into the afternoon. Attendees get to experience the work of some of Jackson’s finest craftsmen and even Civil War reenactments. Meanwhile, the kids stay entertained with a variety of old-fashioned games and a mini archeological dig on the lawn. In between activities, guests are welcome to spread out their picnic blankets and enjoy live Civil War–era music. Gathering on the Green is bringing this Southern town together in celebration of the rich of this “city with soul.”
