Every summer some of America’s most talented brass band musicians bring their horns, trombones, and cornets to the quaint Kentucky town of Danville. The Great American Brass Band Festival is a long weekend full of music, shopping, and picnicking. The idea behind the festival is to celebrate the culture and history of the American brass band.

The party kicks off on Thursday night with a tea and Gallery Hop to allow festival-goers the chance to shop and explore the adorable downtown area. Friday is a family affair full of brass band music at various venues and the whimsical Hot Air Balloon Race. For those interested in learning more about the history of the American brass band, the brass symposium is the perfect opportunity to do so.

Friday night concludes with a big food and music party called Bayou and Brass, featuring New Orleans–style cuisine and music that will have you dancing the night away. Saturday night, however, is the real opportunity for home cooks to shine during the huge picnic on the lawn where contests are held for the most decorated picnic table. This is truly a one-of-a-kind event that provides something for everyone.
