APPENDIX A

Everett’s Notes on Possible Thesis Titles

The following handwritten documents were found in Everett’s files. The first note was likely written before Everett began work on the thesis proper. It indicates what he thought of as the most important aspects of his project. As in the long and short theses, a main theme here is that pure wave mechanics allows one to consistently treat multiple, interacting observers as quantum mechanical systems like any other. Other salient aspects of the project are the deterministic nature of the theory, the associated absence of postulates concerning probability, the interpretation of pure wave mechanics by way of correlations between subsystems, and the centrality of the universal wave function in characterizing these correlations.
