The foregoing brings you up to date, but to really understand the overall story you need to read Federation. If you haven’t done so, why not read it now... you’ll be glad you did.
[You’ll see various notes left by me throughout the trilogy. They are always in blue italics, but they may appear grey in some e-readers and paperbacks. This paragraph is an example.]
A little about me: My full name is Rummy Blin Breganin. I’m a male Daragnen and was born in 745,783 in the city of Glas.
I was schooled in Glas to age fourteen when I was invited to Dinbelay University. I left Dinbelay in 745,804 with multiple qualifications and five published works to my name.
My interest in the events which led to Earth’s notorious attempt to join the Federation began after a visit to the Orion spur of the galaxy.
Now aged thirty-nine, some say my work is of galactic importance, particularly this recently updated account of Earth’s interaction with the Federation. My three-volume work will provide you with a fascinating insight into a species which exhibits an extremely high level of intelligence yet failed to meet the Federation’s membership criteria.
In addition to studying, writing, and historical research, I also enjoy shossball, boarding, sailing, and dimplert.
Today, I live in Dinbelay, where I’m a professor of modern history at the university. I have a wife and two teenage children.
Now, let me invite you into the chaotic world of planet Earth after the destruction of New York and the isolation of the United States of America. I will not apologise for the fragmented nature of my story. It is par for the course with such a multi-stranded tale.
The United States has decided to isolate itself. Other countries are left in the position whereby if they wish to continue to explore membership, they will have to resolve their relationship with the USA, which has made it very clear that any military invasion would be met by a massive nuclear retaliation.
May I remind you that although most of the trilogy is based on fact, diary entries, minutes and notes do not give a feel for actual situations. Copying out chunks of dry minutes or diary entries would not make interesting reading either so I have dramatised this version of my books to bring the story to life. If you want the dry, factual material, I have posted it on the Frame in Arlucian for academic reference.
