No, not like that!
Better yet, there is a safe, nonaddictive, healthy, peaceful, legal, and free way to experience a natural high. It’s called meditation. And once you’ve experienced it, anything that is self-destructive will become far less appealing to you. Meditation is not only peaceful, it also contributes to clarity, happiness, even productivity. I often get my best ideas right after I finish meditating. My mind is clear and ideas seem to come to me almost out of the blue.
Tens of millions of people around the world use meditation on a daily basis. There are many different varieties of meditation, but, in a nutshell, it’s a simple procedure that involves an attempt to clear your mind and relax. It takes anywhere from five to twenty minutes (or longer), and, ideally, it’s done every day.
Although I practice meditation regularly, I’m by no means an expert. The truth is, it’s more difficult than it sounds. As you sit down, close your eyes and attempt to quiet your mind. You may be surprised to discover that your mind is extremely busy and active. Yet with practice, it’s possible to learn to experience an inner stillness that makes you feel peaceful, joyful, enthusiastic, and loving. And when you feel this way, your entire life will be easier and less stressful. You’ll get along with people better, act more loving, and, without question, sweat the small stuff less often!
If you’re at all open to learning meditation, I suggest you take a class or read a book on the subject. Go to the library or your favorite bookstore to find out more. Or even do some research on the Web. There is plenty of great information out there. Some of my favorite authors who have written on the subject include Stephen Levine, Jack Kornfield, and Thich Nhat Hanh, to name just a few.
If one of your goals is to be happier, meditation may be for you. I hope you’ll take some time to check it out.
