AN ALL-NATURAL FACE MASK FOR ALL FOUR SEASONS

Are you ready for this? Your favorite breakfast indulgence might also be your new go-to DIY face mask. The only ingredients you need are Greek yogurt and honey! Start with those two basics and add in any mix of additional ingredients, depending on the season, and you’ll be sure to always put your best face forward. The lactic acid in Greek yogurt (full fat) is a gentle exfoliator that will help clean out your pores. Plus, the combination of fat from the milk in the yogurt and the honey, which is a natural humectant, moisturizes and nourishes your skin.

To make the yogurt and honey base, combine two tablespoons of Greek yogurt with one teaspoon of honey. Then add more ingredients based on the season, your skin type, and what your skin currently needs. Read on for my recommendations by season. With any of these, it’s best to consult a dermatologist or aesthetician to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction to the ingredients before using them.

SPRING

Lemon juice (one lemon wedge): Lemons are a super-fruit in pretty much any category. When it comes to your face, lemons are your go-to for banishing oily skin and evening out dark spots, acne scars, and wrinkles because they act as natural toners and cleansers.

Lavender buds (half a tablespoon) plus essential oil (two drops): Famous for being one of the most calming scents around, lavender is a good thing to keep on hand all year round. Mix a bit of lavender oil into your honey and yogurt mix, and then keep the buds on your face to act as a natural exfoliator.

SUMMER

Fresh berries (equivalent of two to three strawberries): Berries are my key to making a delicious smoothie, and strawberries brighten your skin tone and happen to be packed with vitamin C, which will make your face very happy. Blueberries are amazingly natural antioxidants that help reduce lines and wrinkles. Or go for blackberries, which help fight acne and also act as a toner that polishes skin beautifully.

Orange juice (half a tablespoon) plus oatmeal (one tablespoon): This combo is a veritable one-two punch when it comes to firming up your skin. Oatmeal acts as a natural cleanser and moisturizes deeply to relieve dryness. Add orange juice to the mix and you’ve also got vitamin C and potassium, which help to tighten the skin, unclog pores, and fight blemishes.

FALL

Cinnamon (half a tablespoon): Cinnamon not only smells delicious but helps to dry out acne. It can also open up pores that need a little extra breathing room.

Pumpkin puree (one-quarter of a can) plus brown sugar (one tablespoon): Doesn’t the combo of pumpkin puree and brown sugar sound like a pie that’s just waiting to be baked? But seriously, pumpkin is packed with tons of vitamins and restorative powers that can help reverse skin damage. And if you’re familiar with sugar scrubs, you may already know that brown sugar is an excellent natural exfoliant.

WINTER

Kiwi (one whole kiwi peeled and mashed): Kiwi is a great add-in to help brighten your complexion. Plus, the seeds act as a mild exfoliant.

Avocado (half an avocado) plus egg whites (one egg white): Avocados are soothing to the skin, come packed with moisture, and have anti-inflammatory properties. Egg whites help shrink pores and promote strong, wrinkle-free skin. Combine the two to give wintry skin a blast of rejuvenation.
