If you’re not feeling overly ambitious, give these donuts a try. They just go through one rather brief rising time, and they are easy to put together. When you don’t have the time but would still like a very homemade goodie, give this one a go.
Ingredients
2 packages fast-rising yeast (1⁄2 oz. total)
1 cup water, warm
2 1⁄2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 egg, beaten
1⁄3 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1⁄2 teaspoon salt
3–4 cups flour
Directions
Mix yeast, water and sugar together and let sit 5 minutes to allow the yeast to activate.
Add egg, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt, blend thoroughly, then add flour until the dough is not sticky to the touch.
Knead dough for about 1 minute, then roll out to 1⁄4 inch and cut into desired shapes.
Set these aside to rise for 30 minutes.
Preheat canola oil to 375°F.
Fry for 4 minutes, or until golden brown, turning once so both sides cook evenly.
Drain on paper towels.
