This wasn’t originally my recipe. Many times I take one I find in an old cookbook or even online and I tweak it until it has my own spin on it. I borrowed this, with permission, from a friend, and I like the basic flavor it provides. Here’s one that’s tasty dipped in other things like apple butter, melted chocolate, strawberry jam, or any other topping you might prefer.
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk (2% or whole milk will also do, even water in a pinch)
Directions
Heat canola oil to 375°F.
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt, then stir in buttermilk.
Drop a teaspoon of batter into the hot oil and repeat.
After 2 minutes, check, and then flip, frying for another minute on the other side.
Makes around 18 small donuts
