I call these “tries” because I haven’t quite mastered the cruller just yet. Don’t get me wrong, these make a delightful donut, but they are still lacking something in presentation. Yummy treats, though, so whatever you call them, they are great hot or cold.
Ingredients
3 eggs, beaten
2⁄3 cup sugar
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1⁄4 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Directions
Heat canola oil to 375°F
Beat eggs, then add sugar and butter.
In whole milk, dissolve the baking soda, then add it to the wet mix.
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cream of tartar.
Add the dry to the wet ingredients in thirds, stirring well.
Roll the dough to 1⁄4 inch thickness and cut out rounds and holes.
Fry 3 to 4 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Drain on paper towels, and then dust with powdered sugar.
Makes 10–12 donuts and holes
