CHAPTER 13

Sadie stood in the dining room of the mansion and looked out over the view of the landscaped yard. It was beautiful with the Southern live oak that gracefully blew in the breeze. The sun was almost down, and the sky was highlighted with mixtures of pink, blue, and orange hues.

The sound of someone coming into the room broke her silence and when she turned, it was one of the kitchen aids setting up a dinner for two. The woman met Sadie’s gaze but didn’t smile. The woman nibbled on her lip, then placed the silverware down.

“Hi,” Sadie addressed the woman.

The woman was light skinned with silver-gray hair. She was plump in size with dark blue eyes and a few laugh lines and wrinkles around her mouth. She turned to leave, then paused at the swinging door attached to the kitchen. “If I may, madam, forgive me for being so bold if I am out of line.”

Sadie smiled and walked over to one of the chairs. She placed her hands on it. “It’s fine, go ahead.”

“You realize they’re not natural things, the vampires. They think we don’t know, but we do.”

Her brows rose. “I know they’re vampires, but they’re no harm to you.”

“Once you die, madam, you should stay dead. It’s not natural to become something so perverted with nature.”

The words cut her to the core.

Was she a perversion of nature as well?

She never considered this with Charles, Adam, or William. Other than the heated aggression with Adam, the three men had offered nothing but kindness.

“I have to say then, you’re being unreasonable and honestly cruel. You don’t know me or what I am, either. For all you know, I could also be a vampire. I’m not, but I’m also not human.” The moment she said those words, the reality of her situation hit her.

Her birth mother died during childbirth from what she was told. She didn’t know who her father was. No one wanted to adopt her.

Why?

Had the orphanage known what she was?

Was this why she was never placed with anyone?

She felt her eyes begin to burn with tears and she turned away from the woman.

“Madam, I do apologize. I only wanted to warn you for what you may be getting yourself into.”

Sadie glanced over her shoulder to the server and frowned. “I am a blood demon. I’m not human, either. Your words were hurtful. I would appreciate it if you leave me be.”

She heard a gasp from the server, then turning back to the window, she sighed and crossed her arms over her chest. The door to the kitchen closed and she looked to the floor. The men were offering her everything she never had; a home, a family, love, and support. All they were asking for in return was the ability to feed from her.

As much as she wanted a family to call her own, she hadn’t counted on it being with three men. The term ‘sister wives’ was coined for such a setup, but what do they call this for men?

“Sadie?”

William’s voice called out behind her and she faced him. She gasped at the breathtaking man before her in his gray suit, open collar, and jacket opened with his hands in his pockets. His hair was styled to highlight his natural curls. His chest was exposed only slightly through the opening of his shirt, but she could see the line of his pectorals peeking out from under this button-down shirt.

She swallowed hard and stepped forward. “You look incredible.” The words came out in an almost whisper. Where Charles and Adam were blessed with good looks and charm, William was gifted a body from God that he could model every other man after.

He came into the dining room and pulled a chair out for her. She sat down and allowed him to scoot her closer to the table.

“Since we’re not going to Chicago, I thought I’d bring Chicago to you,” he whispered next to her ear.

She lifted her gaze to his and smiled. “I know of Chicago pizza and hot dogs, but nothing else.”

He chuckled and took a seat. “We’re not having pizza and dogs, unless that’s what you want?”

She shook her head. “No, definitely not. I’m wearing this amazing green dress that was delivered to my room earlier today. The chiffon would never recover from a pizza stain or ketchup.”

“Duly noted,” he said with a wink. “Tonight, I thought we would have bourbon glazed salmon with vegetables and, for dessert, chocolate cake with fudge icing.”

Her brows lifted. “If it’s all the same to you, I’m happy to start with dessert.”

He grinned. “Then, we shall have dessert first. Claudia,” he called out and faced the kitchen. The same woman with the silver-gray hair came out.

“Yes, sir?” Her gaze was trained on his. She didn’t once dare to look her way. If she did, there was a chance she may crumble. Or maybe that was Sadie who felt the tension.

“We’ll have the dessert now.”

“Yes, sir,” she said and left the room.

“There you have it, Sadie. Dessert first.”

“How long has she been with you now? Umm, Claudia?”

“A few years now, maybe a decade? I’m honestly not sure. Eventually, when you’ve been around as long as we have, time becomes something that passes with the wind. Why do you ask?”

Should she tell him what transpired?

Would he become upset and fire Claudia?

If she didn’t say anything, and it were to come out later, would he be upset she kept this to herself?

“I’d like to tell you, but I want your word on Claudia that no repercussions will come to her.”

He frowned. “What happened?”

She sighed, then explained what Claudia had said. “Her words hurt because, like you, I’m not human. However, she had me thinking.”

“She had no right to say anything to you.” His voice came out with an angry sneer and he went to stand from his chair.

She placed her hand on his and he paused, then looked into her eyes. “You promised,” she reminded him.

“She had no right,” he repeated.

“I agree, she didn’t, but there’s a chance she didn’t think I knew about you, and maybe her motherly instincts kicked in. I don’t know, William, but like I said, she had me thinking.”

He sighed and tilted his head to her. “Do tell.” His voice had a slight growl. He didn’t sound amused, not that she would expect him to, but he wasn’t happy.

“I was told, when I was old enough, that my birth mother died during childbirth. My father wasn’t on the certificate. No one came to look over me, had any interest in adopting me, and the foster homes I did spend some time in, no one wanted to have me as their own.” She paused and laced her fingers in her lap. The truth was hard to admit, and she hated that it made her feel inadequate. “What I’m trying to say is, could it be possible that me being a blood demon can be sensed by humans? Would this be why no one ever wanted me?” Tears welled in her eyes and she looked at her lap. “I’m not trying to ask for a pity party here, William, I’m just trying to understand more of who I am and how I fit into this world.”

She heard his chair scoot across the floor and a moment later, he bent down next to her. He took her hand in his and pressed his lips across each knuckle. “Is there a possibility?” He looked at her and when she kept her eyes from his, he touched her chin, turning her face toward his. “Yes, there’s a very real possibility. Humans can pick up on things that are supernatural whether they choose to admit it or not. There’s a chance they felt the darkness of being a demon inside you.”

She shifted in her seat and wiped at her eyes. “But I’m not a dark person. I’m not evil.”

“I agree. The darkness doesn’t make you a bad person. You were born with a gift to give to others. I’m sorry you were never offered an opportunity to experience a family, but, Sadie, this is what we’re giving you now. The choice is now up to you if you want to accept it.” He stood and as he turned, she held onto his hand.

She looked up at him and offered a smile through her tears. “Thank you.”

“You never have to thank us. We want you here with us, and not just for the feeding.”

She let go of his hand and he returned to his seat.

“You talk as if you already know we’re all a perfect fit with one another. I feel as if we’ve just met. How do you know I’m the right blood demon for your trio?”

He picked up his stemmed glass filled with blood and he sipped from it. The view should have creeped her out, and maybe a few weeks ago it would have. However, now, it seemed as common as her drinking water from a cup.

“I don’t believe in love at first sight; however, I do believe in chemistry and recognizing one another’s souls.”

She frowned and crossed one leg over the other. Dabbing her napkin under her eyes, she took care of the tears that were left and sucked in a deep breath, calming herself. Breakdown avoided, she continued. “What do you mean by recognizing a soul?”

“When you met us, Sadie, what did you feel?”

She nibbled on her lip and considered what he was asking. “To be honest, I thought you were all beautifully damaged.”

He tilted his head slightly. “Explain.”

“When I first walked into the den and found you three talking to the doctor, I thought you appeared wounded. Not from a fight, but as if something was offered to you, but you knew, deep down, no matter the circumstance, you couldn’t accept it.”

He nodded and rubbed at his chin for a moment. “That’s actually quite perceptive.” He leaned forward and rested an elbow on the table. “Have you ever felt something inside yourself open up and you had no idea how desperately you needed this thing until it was right in front of you? In that moment when you realize you have lived your life with only half your soul, and the other half was right there, staring you in the face. That is what it felt like to look upon you, Sadie; for all three of us.

She stared into his eyes for a long, silent moment. It wasn’t peculiar or gauche, it was just William and Sadie delving deeper into one another’s minds, souls, and this moment of reflection.

She wiped at her mouth and set her napkin on the table, then stood. She walked over to where William sat and he pushed back in his chair, giving her space to place herself directly in front of him.

William then stood, slowly, never breaking eye contact. His body brushed against her breasts, her nipples becoming erect from the contact.

Her heart didn’t race, and she wasn’t scared. She wasn’t frightened with any of her men.

Her men.

Were they her men?

Was she their woman?

William traced the back of his fingers across her cheek, then cupped the back of her head. He leaned down and lowered his mouth over hers. It was soft, tender, patient. He didn’t try to deepen the kiss with his tongue. He simply kissed her, then pulled away. His forehead rested against hers and he closed his eyes.

Sadie studied his face, his lips. “William,” she whispered.

“Yes?”

“Why are you holding back?”

He lifted his head and a brow. “What do you want from me, Sadie?”

His question held no malice. She stared into his eyes and rested her arms around his neck, then grinned. “I want you to kiss me. Kiss me like I won’t be here tomorrow. Kiss me like the other part of your soul has been found and captured. Kiss me like I’m yours.”

He didn’t hesitate this time and claimed her lips. His tongue found hers and she gasped. With one swipe, everything behind her was now on the floor. He lifted her and sat her on the edge, then pushed her legs apart.

“I want to taste you. I want to glide my tongue along your pussy and taste you, Sadie,” he growled against her mouth.

“Shit.” The word rushed from her in a breathless whisper and she tilted her head to the side.

His lips trailed from her ear to her neck. His free hand cupped her breast and squeezed her nipple with his finger and thumb.

She groaned and pressed his face closer to her neck. Sadie wanted him to bite her, needed to feel his fangs in her skin. She didn’t understand this need, this desire, but she wanted it more than she wanted anything in her life.

Was this what it meant to be a blood demon?

Was this what drove the carnal desire she was experiencing?

Would this newfound need to be dominated by her men always be there?

How would she not completely lose herself and go mad with the intensity of it all?

William lowered a hand between them and pressed his fingers against the fabric over her pussy. “Baby, you’re so wet,” he whispered. Bringing his fingers back to his mouth, he sniffed, and a guttural groan erupted within his throat. “Fuck, I need to taste you.”

“Not here,” she whispered and pulled him back to her mouth. “In your room.”

A rush of wind swirled around her body and before she could understand what was happening, she was on her back in his bedroom.

“Wow,” she exclaimed. “You can move fast!”

He chuckled. “I need you and I agree, this bed is much better than the wood of the table. Sadie, do you like the panties you have on?”

Curious, she shrugged. “I don’t know. I guess?”

“Then, I’ll buy you a new pair.” With both hands, he ripped the material from her body and Sadie yelped.

“Well, that’s a way to get my clothes off.”

He grinned and pushed her skirt up to her waist. “Spread your legs wide for me. Fuck, your pussy is beautiful.”

She shaved everything but a small vertical line that stopped just above her clit. He laid between her legs and, using his fingers, he pushed open her slit. His tongue slid over her pearl before he sucked on it, devouring her. He pushed two fingers into her pussy and finger fucked her.

She tangled her fingers in his hair and pulled him closer to her, grinding her cunt on his face. “Fuck, yes!”

She felt a vibration against her core and realized it was him, growling. The sensation shot a jolt of ecstasy down her spine and like a firework, she exploded. Her back arched and she groaned, tugging at William’s hair.

“Holy shit, William! Fuck, I’m coming, don’t stop!” She screamed his name as he sucked on her clit, nibbling the pulsing nub. She pushed his head away from her as her body shook with the aftershock of what she’d just experienced. She felt like waves over water as the moon’s pull caused the white caps to ebb and flow. Her mind floated in this moment, maybe her body, too, and she wasn’t sure which way was up. However, right now, it didn’t matter in the least.

She finally took in a sated breath and looked at William as he sat on his heels between her legs. His grin was full of mischief, and just by the peak of one brow, she knew he wasn’t done with her.

“I would love to know what you’re thinking, but I have a feeling you won’t tell me.”

He chuckled, then placed a hand on either side of her body. “I’d much rather show you.”

“Oh hell,” she whispered, and her pussy became wet for the man. Strangely enough, though, as much as she wanted to have sex with William, she also wanted the other two men with her as well.

All three men.

How the hell would she do this?

The better question would be how could she do this?

The second the question entered her mind; it was gone when William’s cock slid inside her core. Her back arched and she wrapped her arms and legs around his strong, thick body. Right now, she was his. Tomorrow, she would consider this world with the three vampires, and her new life as a blood demon concubine.
