SNEHAL
Snehal heaved a sigh of relief when the plane landed at the Hubli airport. She had been looking forward to seeing her parents since she spoke with that morning.
“Is your uncle coming to the airport?” Snehal asked.
“Yes. My mother is also coming with my uncle.”
Snehal shook her head and closed her eyes. She would face her parents without any fear in the presence of her mother-in-law, who had mediated and had convinced them.
“I hope your father will be at the airport,” Vivek said.
“Yes, he promised me he would be in the airport when we spoke this morning,” Snehal replied.
They walked out of the airplane and collected their luggage.
The visitor’s lounge was crowded with people trying to locate and welcome their loved ones. Snehal looked through the crowd. Her parents stood in the front, holding garlands. Beside them were Vivek’s mother and his uncle, holding a bouquet.
Snehal’s heart raced as she approached her parents. She forced a smile at her father, not sure what to say to him.
Her father came forward and put the garlands on them. He hugged Snehal, and said, “Welcome, my dear. I’m really sorry.” He held her by her shoulders. “I hope you’ll forgive me.”
Snehal took a deep breath. “You don’t need to ask for forgiveness, Dad. We need to forget the past and move forward.”
Her father looked at Vivek. “Welcome back, my dear son-in-law.”
Vivek shook his hand.
Kailas hugged him and said, “Please forgive me for behaving so harsh with you. You’re a good person.”
“Thanks for your compliments, Uncle,” Vivek said.
Snehal and Vivek together bowed to everyone and took their blessings.
Snehal’s father ushered them towards their car. “We all are going to my home.” He looked at Prabha and Pankaj. “Vivek is staying with us for a couple of days before we send him back to your home.”
“Uncle, I wanted——”
“Vivek,” Snehal’s mother said. “You are staying with us for a couple of days.”
Vivek shifted his glance at Snehal.
Snehal winked at him. “Let’s listen to what Mum says.”
Vivek nodded, smiling.
