BEES HERE NOW

Bees live in the present. If there is danger, they defend. If larvae need care, they provide. If food or water are needed, they get it. If cold, they gather in a large group; when it gets too hot inside the cluster, they rotate out to the outside; when they get too cold, they burrow back toward the center. They see what needs doing and they do it.

That role model isn't always right for all of life, of course, but it's more right than I'd ever have imagined. So much of my life has been taking note of things that need doing in the future. Doing them now, as I notice them, saves a lot of energy and time. Chop wood, carry water, write the book, fix the door, pay bills—don't wait, don't worry, do it now. Sort of a bee form of Zzzzen.
