Dessert Burger

Going all the way with the burger theme, this is the dream dessert after just about any burger course. Waffles and chocolate ice cream serve as the bun and burger, strawberry sauce as ketchup, whipped cream for the mayo, and kiwi slices for pickles.

MAKES 4 “BURGERS”

Whip the cream in a well-chilled medium bowl with beaters or a whisk until firm. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Place the strawberries and the sugar in a food processor fitted with a steel blade or blender and process until they are just pureed. It’s okay if there are a few small pieces of berry left. Set aside.

Toast or make the waffles.

Scoop about 1 cup of the ice cream onto plastic wrap. Cover with another sheet of plastic wrap and roughly shape into a burger (don’t knock yourself out—it’s concept we’re going for here, not verisimilitude).

Center the ice cream “burger” on 1 waffle. Cover with strawberry sauce. Top with some whipped cream. Cover with another waffle. Garnish with kiwi “pickles.” Repeat with the remaining ingredients.

If you’re making these for a crowd, assemble a perfect one for display; then you can be more cavalier preparing the others. They’ll be eaten fast anyway—just like any other burger.
