This has been a special book for me, and one I wrote early in my writing career. I’m excited to finally be able to share it with you!
Something I dearly love about writing historical fiction is all the amazing stories I find about events in the past. The Rocky Ridge Pony Express and Stage Station was a real place, situated on the edge of the lovely Sweetwater River.
I tried to stay as true as possible to dates around the Pony Express, telegraph, and stage timelines, including the very real Indian attack on May 27, 1865, when 150 Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians burned the station and cut 400 yards of telegraph wire. The station attendants really did hide in the dry well. When the ammunition in the buildings exploded, the Indians fled. The station was rebuilt and named "St. Mary's Station.” You probably thought I fabricated the whole event, but it really happened!
Josiah and Mara will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for taking them into yours, as well!
Love and blessings,
Misty
