GINNY

Ginny’s heart couldn’t have been any fuller if she’d stuffed it herself. Two long tables lined the dining room of the café, and they were each filled with new friends.

Aiden sat beside her, whispering in her ear as he heaped mashed potatoes onto her plate. Reece sat beside Ted, who’d brought his daughter and mother to the lunch.

From the way that Ted looked at her daughter, it was obvious that he was smitten, maybe even more than that. She hoped to get to know him better in the coming weeks and months.

Shelby had also made an appearance. At first Ginny was worried how things would go over with Ted being there, but she had brought a man named Batton with her. She had also brought her grandmother and Batton’s parents. The more, the merrier, Ginny had said as she poured tall glasses of sweet tea for them.

There were more folks than that—regular customers with no family in Sugar Cove. She had welcomed all of them for the meal and was glad to be able to give back to the people who had contributed so much to her happiness.

“Have you heard from Chandler?” Aiden asked.

Just then her phone dinged. “It’s her right now.”

“What does she say?”

“She’s with Hudson and everything’s good.” She pressed the phone to her chest. “It looks like everyone’s having a perfect holiday.”

“I definitely am,” he told her with a smile that sent a shiver down her spine. “Couldn’t be happier.”

She nudged him with her shoulder. “Are you sure about that?”

“Oh, I’m sure. Here. Have a bite of pie.” Before she could protest, Aiden cut a chunk of pumpkin pie with his fork and fed it to her. “Isn’t it good?”

It was. “Mm. Best pie Reece has ever made.”

He brushed a strand of hair from her cheek. “This is the best Thanksgiving I’ve had in a long time.”

“Me too.”

Her phone rang and she glanced at the number. It was Savannah calling. Again. What could that woman possibly want?

Maybe it was because she was so happy. Perhaps it was because it was a holiday and people were supposed to be generous on holidays. Whatever it was, Ginny answered.

“Hello?”

But before Savannah could speak, the door opened with a bang.

Farrah strode in clutching two suitcases. Her eyes were puffy as if she’d been crying, and her gaze searched the room wildly.

Forgetting all about the phone call, Ginny rose and raced to her best friend. “What’s wrong? What happened?”

Farrah voice shook. “I’ve left Evan. It’s over.”

Ginny’s stomach dropped. Well, so much for a perfect holiday. It looked like Thanksgiving was about to be ruined.
