Of the 563 destroyer escorts in World War II, 30 were manned by the United States Coast Guard, although they were officially listed as United State Navy ships. The first destroyer escort sunk by enemy action was the Coast Guard–manned USS Leopold in March 1944. Source: Destroyer Escort Sailors Association.
