Mr. Wieners’s greatest invention.
MAKES 8 DOODLES
Gretchen Wieners’s dad is the master behind this toaster strudel. We thought we’d expose his secret recipe, straight from Gretchen’s big hair!
Some losers get store-bought strudels, which just keeps making Gretchen’s dad rich AF. But real beyotches make their own breakfast pastry from scratch.
• Set your oven to 425°F. Bring the jam and cornstarch and water mixture to a boil in a small saucepan over low to medium heat. Don’t let it burn, burnt jam tastes like ass. Stir for 3 to 4 minutes and then set aside to cool to room temp.
• Lay out one sheet of your puff pastry and cut into 4 rectangles. Scoop a hefty spoonful of the thickened and cooled jam in the middle of one end of each piece. Fold those beauties in half and seal like a love letter with a solid ’80s crimp using a fork. Repeat with the next sheet of puff pastry until you have 8 pockets of love. Place on a baking sheet and bake for about 7 minutes, or until golden, just golden enough to be reminiscent of last summer’s spray tan. Let cool.
• While baking, whisk the powdered sugar and lemon juice together in a small bowl, adding juice only a ½ tablespoon at a time. This is gonna be icing, so you’ll want a glossy and thick consistency. Add a few drops of red food coloring and stir. Once your strudels have cooled, drizzle with icing. Let icing set for about 30 minutes before you dig in!
Note: This is technically a “breakfast food.” But there are no rules here. If you’re over 21 these beauties go great with champagne!
