EPILOGUE 2

A PROMISE KEPT

Dane

She appeared in the doorway, an imposing figure, her features difficult to make out in the darkness that seemed to surround her. Her eyes glowed a deep crimson, her pupils thin slits. Her skin was pale and stretched tight over her bones, her lips a thin line of disapproval. Her hair was wild and unkempt, and seemed to move almost as if alive, writhing and twisting in a chaotic dance around her head. She wore a long black dress, tattered and ripped in places, and her fingers curled in a claw-like grip upon the door frame. But the most striking thing about her was the aura of dark magic that seemed to emanate from her, an invisible wave of darkness that nearly knocked everyone in the room off their feet.

Her voice was a raspy whisper, and she spoke slowly and deliberately. "You may have won this battle," she said, her gaze flicking around the room. "But you will never win the war." Her words sent a chill down my spine, and a wave of fear rippled through the room. Before Baba Yaga could cast a spell to catch her, Marci raised her hands and aimed a blast of dark magic at Holli. The blast missed Holli, but hit Abbi instead, who was now lying unconscious on the floor. Everyone was so concerned for Abbi that Marci made her escape.

The room erupted into chaos and I felt a wave of anger rush through me. How dare this woman come in and cause such destruction? How dare she try to harm Holli and hurt my Abbi? I wanted to make her pay, wanted to make her feel the pain she was trying to cause. But for now, all I could do was watch helplessly as the Headmistress’ secretary disappeared into the night.
