Jean-François Caron was born in La Pocatière, Quebec, in 1978. In 2005, after several rewarding years as a teacher of French, he became editor-in-chief of Voir Saguenay/Alma, where he spent five years as cultural correspondent and columnist. He then worked as a freelance writer, contributing regularly to other Quebec periodicals, including Lettres québécoises, Vie des arts, and Le Sabord. He has also written several artist’s books and exhibition catalogues, some of which have been published by Sagamie – Éditions d’art. In 2010 he assumed responsibility for communications and audience development for Théatre La Rubrique, in Jonquière. Editor-in chief of L’Unique, the journal of the Quebec Union of Writers, he also belongs to the editorial board of Lettres québécoises, for which he writes a regular feature.
The author of two books of poetry and a first novel, Nos échoueries (La Peuplade, 2010), Caron has been awarded several literary prizes for both fiction and poetry. In 2008 he received a master’s degree in literary studies and creation from the Université du Québec in Chicoutimi. At present he lives and works in the relative isolation of Sainte-Béatrix, in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, where he devotes himself to writing.
