Pan-Fried Onions with Fresh Thyme

These are the perfect onions to use as a topping for burgers, steaks, or chicken.

Ingredients

Serves 4

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

2–3 large white onions, sliced

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

2 springs thyme, chopped

Variation

Want to get a stronger, spicy onion flavor? Simply replace the white onions with purple onions. These onions have a spicy flavor.

  1. Heat the oil over medium heat in a large pan.
  2. Add the onions and season with salt and pepper. Stir occasionally until the onions start to get soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the thyme. Continue stirring for a couple of minutes. The natural juices and sugars from the onions will begin to come out. Cook until the onions are brown in color approximately 8–10 minutes.
