L.A. Streets Fruit Salad

If you’re ever in Los Angeles you’ll find street vendors selling fresh fruit in plastic bags. This sweet, savory, and spicy combination will make your mouth water.

Ingredients

Serves 2

1 medium jicama, peeled and cut into long wedges

2 ripe mangoes, cored and cut into long wedges

2 cups cubed fresh watermelon

Meat of 12 coconut

1 large cucumber, cut in 8 wedges

Juice of 2 medium lemons

Salt to taste

Cayenne pepper to taste

Add Spices Before Serving

If you’re not planning to eat this recipe immediately, place it in the fridge covered, with no spices or lemon juice added. Add the spices and lemon juice right before eating. This will prevent the fruit from getting soggy.

  1. In a large bowl, combine the jicama, mangoes, watermelon, coconut meat, and cucumber.
  2. Add the lemon juice and toss. Add salt and toss one more time.
  3. Sprinkle with cayenne pepper to taste and serve immediately.
