He was up, it was his turn on a mission and with everything that had gone down two weeks ago, Ridge wasn’t sure if he was going to actually go, he really needed Fling here to back him up for one, and also to handle Tank. Fling and Sunny had taken a week off, taking their two kids and disappearing to visit Titan, Birdie, and Devon’s grave and let them know how everything went down. They were also closing things in LA up totally, which meant that currently their President was still gone.
Bear and the other members of the Furies that were injured were still recuperating. Ridge Runner and the others who had remained in San Diego were picking up the slack, not a damn one of them cared but when they had received their delivery of papers like they had been expecting, it had come with another job. One he wanted to complete himself, one he had to.
He ran his hand down his face and looked out into the main room. He caught Bear’s eye who was sitting at a table with the Roarks, their three girls, and their men. He hadn’t yet gotten used to the family whom had now adopted the Furies as well as the Ops. Sonia Roark was one scary woman. Bear nodded to him and put down his beer and kissed his woman before coming to the office.
“What’s up?” Bear asked.
“We have a request,” Ridge said and Bear frowned at him.
“A job?”
“Kinda,” Ridge said and handed him a piece of paper. “Apparently someone’s daughter is currently somewhere she should not be. Her family had asked the State Department to smooth the way for her to return home. The country in question, isn’t feeling too kindly to the request and claims she was sent there to spy on them in the first place. They found her looking through the desk of a foreign diplomat. She said it was harmless, but they are taking it as an act of our government trying to find information.”
Bear nodded and looked at the paperwork. It wasn’t completely unusual that someone asked for help getting a loved one back. The State Department couldn’t exactly argue with them when the woman was caught red handed. This was what they did, what the regular channels couldn’t do. It was also what they were paid handsomely for.
“So?” Bear said, looking up.
“So,” Ridge said and shifted uncomfortably. “It is not the request that is baffling, it is the woman who they want us to help.”
Bear looked at the paper again, and finally he saw the last name. His eyes went right to Ridge and his eyebrows raised. “Is this who I think this is?”
He nodded and Bear closed his eyes and moaned. “Really, could this be any more fucked up. What the hell do we have a goddamn black cloud over our heads?”
Ridge laughed and shook his head. “We may have.”
Bear put the paper down and then paced to the window, looking out into the main room and put a hand to the back of his neck. Ridge knew exactly what he was battling, Fling was gonna be pissed and Sunny was going to demand they help and why? Because she was family.
“Does he know?” Bear asked.
Ridge sighed loudly and said, “Fuck no, do you think he would be sitting out there right now if he knew, shit. If I had told him his sister was in some shit, he would have gone off the rails. I already am prepared to get my ass kicked for withholding it from him, but you know how the fuck he feels about her, especially since their father is a piece of shit who really couldn’t give a crap that his daughter was caught, more like he is pissed he was reminded his daughter was actually still alive.”
Bear stepped out of the room and yelled, “Tank, get your ass in here.”
The man stood and laughed at something Tally had said and then raised a hand and walked to the office. Ridge knew his brother, hell they all did, not that they blamed him. They would all feel the same way. Kasey Monroe, sister to Kris ‘Tank’ Monroe, and not only the daughter of one of the biggest bastards in the fucking world, but that bastard was also General Monroe, the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or as Tank liked to call him, that ‘sorry motherfucker’.
Kasey had every reason to hate her father, so did Kris, the man had been directly responsible for the death of their mother when they were children, not that anyone ever agreed with them. But both of them knew, Ridge knew the story as did the rest of the club. Their mother had been killed as a warning to their father, he had refused to ask anyone for help and when the deadline passed and their father hadn’t done what the kidnappers wanted, they had killed her. It had been so simple, and yet he had refused.
Kasey had hung out at the clubhouse when Tank had first joined, they had all taken a shining to the perky blonde who had joined the Air Force to spite her father’s rank in the Army. Ridge especially, not that Tank knew that, the man would probably lose his mind if he knew that one drunken night, Ridge and Kasey had slept together. Which was the last time she had been to the clubhouse unfortunately.
“What’s up?” Tank said and Bear shut the door and handed him the papers. When he began reading it, Ridge knew the second he saw his sister’s name, well, everyone in the outer room did as well since his roar shook the fucking walls.
