On 11 September 2012, in a fire at the Ali Enterprises factory in Karachi, Pakistan, 260 workers died and more than 30 were injured.1

Only three weeks earlier, on 21 August, the Italian company RINA S.p.A. provided the factory with an SA8000 certification, designed to indicate good working conditions.
