Find Peace During Uncertainty

Because life is dynamic, it’s unpredictable and uncertain. Some people adapt easier than others to change. When the turbulence of not knowing forces you outside your comfort zone, you might feel anxiety, distress, and fear. In meditation you can sense the steadiness underlying all uncertainty and find refuge and joy therein. All change provides opportunities to move in new directions, gain a new perspective as you view the world through a different lens, and find unique gifts that change calls forth in you.

1. Sit cross-legged on your yoga mat or in a chair with your feet flat on the floor, palms cradling a small elephant carved from agate or another earth stone, ideas of stability and constancy in your thoughts. (In some cultures of the world, nothing symbolizes strength and stability like the elephant.)

2. Close your eyes and visualize your root chakra (Muladhara) as a spinning red wheel at the base of your spine.

3. Imagine an energy ray in a continuous loop as it flows from your root chakra to pierce deep into the earth’s core and return to your chakra.

4. Chant Lam (the sound that is traditionally connected to the root chakra) to energize your root chakra as you meditate on peace.
