Start your day with the energy and light from the sun. When you start your day with the Salutation to the Sun, its rays of infinite warmth, light, and happiness fill you with happiness and possibility. The full salutation consists of a series of yoga postures, each with an accompanying mantra. What follows is one commonly used as the first position.
1. Rise to face the dawn. Wear loose clothing. Stand with your feet together.
2. Join your hands in prayer at your heart, the pose of respect (Pranamasana).
3. Chant the first mantra: Om Mitraya Namaha.
4. Continue with yoga poses that generate heat while strengthening your core, or choose to rest for ten minutes before doing a sitting meditation.
5. Close your eyes. Imagine warmth and light permeating your being.
6. Imagine sunlight revitalizing all your cells, restoring them to perfection as the light becomes expansive, spreading throughout your body.
7. Feel saturated with happiness and confidence that what you hope to accomplish will be easier having started your day with the sun.
