The natural state of your true self is one of joy and rapture. Holding on to anger and pain toward someone you haven’t been able to forgive for a hurt inflicted in the past only agitates your mental suffering; you feel angry, sad, confused, and less positive about life. Such feelings hamper your spiritual progress and can take a toll on your happiness. Conversely, forgiveness can bring you a healthier attitude, lower blood pressure, less hostility, and higher self-esteem and psychological well-being. Place the value of your good health over holding on to a grudge. Discuss your feelings with a trusted friend, listen to forgiveness tapes, or seek professional help, if necessary, but find a way to let go, forgive, and focus on the here and now. When you do, you create room in your heart and mind for peace to enter.
