Develop Deep Self-Love

During infancy and early childhood, a person must receive love and emotional connections if he or she is to feel worthy and lovable as an adult. When those basic needs aren’t met, the adult struggles with relationship and abandonment issues. However, no matter what your childhood was like, it’s never too late to tap into the universe’s infinite reservoir of love, and use that to create a happier and healthier you. See your body, mind, and spirit as unique and worthy of self-love. Loving yourself, you are then able to share your love and happiness with others. This self-care isn’t narcissism but rather a cultivation of a tender loving-kindness to achieve healthy selfhood.

Begin writing daily in a journal or a Smash book (part journal, part scrapbook) that celebrates your life. In it, write a daily positive affirmation to yourself. Keep expressions simple; for example, My body is healthy or My heart is peaceful and loving or My mind is imaginative. Or, I am happy. Paste or draw images and symbols from your meditation and dreams. Jot down any inner guidance. See your mind as wildly creative; see your body as an old friend that has brought you from infancy to adulthood, ever loyal and faithful and never abandoning you.
