Beeley Lane up to Beeley Moor is a frequently used hill climb course, not quite steep enough for the pure climbers, but a great road nonetheless. Start from the T-junction outside The Devonshire Arms in the centre of the village. The hardest slopes are in the first third so you can put some extra effort in here, safe in the knowledge that things will get easier further up. Following a noticeable increase in gradient, there’s a brief levelling and from here on it’s just a degree gentler. You can either take this as the signal to relax a little, or click down a gear and keep pushing as the road meanders in and out of the cover of the woods. Exiting the trees for a final time, press on through the last bend, which takes you on to the exposed moor. The gradient continues to ebb away, but at the same time your exposure to the elements increases, ensuring the long ride to the brow is an effort all the way.
