The NKJV Editors
The initial editing was done by the translators themselves. Each book was carefully scrutinized by other translators who had done books of comparable size. For example, Dr. Philip Williams, who revised 2 Corinthians, also interacted with Dr. Sturz’s revision of Hebrews, and vice versa.
Following detailed guidelines drawn up by the editors, translators and several members of the Overview Committees, the English Editor, Dr. William McDowell, in collaboration with the Old Testament Editor, Dr. James D. Price, and the New Testament Editor (later Executive Editor of the NKJV), Dr. Arthur L. Farstad, carefully reviewed every word of the entire Bible. Meanwhile, many members of the Overview Committees were constantly contributing their reactions, suggestions, and criticisms to the book or books that they chose to work with.
The Executive Review Committees
After the text of both Testaments was well advanced, President Sam Moore of Thomas Nelson Publishers established Executive Review Committees for both Testaments.
The New Testament Executive Review Committee
Since the New Testament is much shorter than the Old, and was finished first, Dr. Farstad, who was originally New Testament Editor, was asked to join the Old Testament ERC when the New Testament was nearly finished. He was then made Executive Editor of the NKJV.
All of the following members of the ERC read through the typescripts of the entire New Testament, and made written suggestions. These were taken up and acted upon by the assembled ERC. These meetings met for a week or two at a time in various parts of the U.S.A., Canada, and finally, Scotland.
