KIRBY LARSON is the acclaimed author of the Newbery Honor book Hattie Big Sky and its sequel, Hattie Ever After; the Dogs of World War II books: Duke, Dash, which won the Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction, and Liberty; The Friendship Doll; Dear America: The Fences Between Us; as well as the first Audacity Jones story, Audacity Jones to the Rescue.

She has also cowritten two award-winning picture books: Two Bobbies: A True Story of Hurricane Katrina, Friendship, and Survival and Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine & a Miracle.

Kirby lives in Washington State with her husband and Winston the Wonder Dog.
