Sugar Plum Fairy Soap

This fun soap is created when plums are in season. I gift it and sell it mostly during winter, as sugar plums seem to be a traditional holiday treat.

This delightful soap is full of juicy plums that help keep skin healthy and nourished so it retains its natural moisture. The plums contain a plethora of delicious vitamins and minerals, and the added sugar acts as a gentle exfoliator and softens the bar.

For this recipe, we will be freezing the plums after they are pureed, as plums are high in sugar, and when sugar is mixed with lye it tends to burn. Burning will discolor your soap and scent it awfully, so we freeze the pureed plums to avoid this issue.

Ingredients:

3.8 oz plums

3.8 oz distilled water

2.9 oz lye

8 oz olive oil

8 oz coconut oil

4 oz castor oil

3 tbsp of sugar

essential oil if desired

#1 This blend has a sharp leafy green twang, along with the sweet juiciness of the plum scent. The scent instantly evokes a picture in my head of fairies dancing under sparking silver moonlight.

30 drops geranium rose

20 drops galbanum

60 drops tangerine from peel

Method:

Line your soap mold with freezer paper. Cut your plums off the seed and remove any stems, then toss your plums into a blender and add equal amounts of distilled water (I like to go a little bit over what I will end up needing just to make sure I end up with enough plum puree) and blend until pureed. Pour into ice cube trays and freeze.

One your ice cubes have frozen, weigh 7.6 ounces of ice cubes in a heat-proof bowl and weigh your lye in a separate container. Take these to a well-ventilated outside area and add your lye to your ice cubes, mixing thoroughly. Set this aside in a safe place to cool.

Now weigh your oils and melt over medium heat. Remove from heat once melted and add your essential oils, if desired. Once both your oils and lye water reach around 100°F to 110°F, add the lye water to the oils and blend until you reach trace.

Now add your sugar and keep mixing until just before you reach pudding stage. This will help the sugar remain suspended in your soap.

Now pour into pre-lined soap mold and set aside for 12 to 24 hours in an undisturbed area at room temperature.

Cut and set aside to cure for 4 weeks.

Enjoy your sugar plum soap!
