Golden Coconut Milk Soap

You may have heard of golden milk, or better yet, you may drink it daily. If you are unfamiliar with golden milk, it’s a wonderful warm beverage made by blending milk with warming spices that aid the digestive system along with a healthy dose of turmeric, which has countless health benefits. This recipe is a twist on golden milk that brings the skin the nourishing benefits of turmeric and blends them with circulation-enhancing spices and cleansing and nourishing coconut all wrapped up in a neat bar of soap.

Ingredients:

7.6 ounces of coconut milk

2.9 ounces of lye

8 oz olive oil

8 oz coconut oil

4 oz castor oil

2 tsp turmeric

Recommended Scent Blend: Golden Milk

40 drops cardamom

10 drops clove

40 drops white champa leaf

Method:

SAFETY CHECK!!

Pour coconut milk into ice cube tray and freeze, so you don’t burn the sugars in the coconut milk when you add the lye later.

Once your coconut milk has frozen, place coconut cubes into a heatproof, non-reactive mixing bowl, weigh your lye in a separate container, and take to a well-ventilated, safe outdoor place. Add your lye to the coconut milk ice cubes and mix thoroughly. Your mixture may turn slightly yellow and gently saponify due to the fat in the coconut milk, so keep stirring or your blend will get chunky and firm. Stir for about 2 minutes. Set this aside, but come back and check every 5 minutes to see if it needs more stirring.

Weigh oils into a pan and set over medium heat until melted. Remove from heat and add your scent. Gather your lye/milk and add this to your oils once both the lye blend and oil have reached 100°F to 110°F. Mix these until they have reached trace.

Add 2 teaspoons of turmeric and blend well. Pour into soap mold and let sit in an undisturbed space for 12 to 24 hours, then peel off soap mold liner, cut, and set aside to cure for 4 to 6 weeks.
