This story ends The Gates series. I wanted to take a moment and thank all of you for joining me and the characters on their journeys. We helped a man rediscover himself, and another to find a home and acceptance. We danced at a wedding, ended a crime family’s rule, and slew old demons for more than a few people.
Along the way, we watched as the crew from The Gates navigated love, loss, and new beginnings, including the restoration of a beloved building back to its former glory. A true reflection of the downtown as a whole – a snapshot in time.
The City of Angels is more than the playground for the rich and famous. Lives play out every day far away from the glitter and glam: gritty, raw, and real, lightyears from the golden Malibu hills seen on every postcard, or the landmark Hollywood sign.
We explored living on the streets struggling with homelessness, serious illnesses, mental breakdowns, heroic actions, loyalty, and the true meaning of family. I hope I’ve done the city justice, and all the wonderfully unique people who call it home.
Below is a picture I took while visiting DTLA with my amazing publisher and friend, Michelle. This building became my inspiration for The Gates.
