Acceptance of bid for catering in home with details
From customer to business organization
We have decided to accept your bid to provide catering and staffing for a fundraising function at my home on May 1.
Attached is the order form for the various appetizers we would like served. Based on RSVPs already received, we expect to have as many as thirty-six people at the reception, and therefore we have increased the size of the food and drink order accordingly.
Please draw up a contract based on the order form and send it to me for final approval and signature.
Request for credit for problem with catering in home
From customer to business organization
Regarding your recent services at a fundraising reception held in my home on May 1, I am writing to request credit in the amount of $100 because you were unable to provide two servers, as specified in the contract.
We were lucky enough to have several volunteers who pitched in to help bring food to the guests.
Request for bid for family event
From customer to business organization
I would like to receive a bid from your company to provide the following services for a wedding celebration to be held at my home on June 15:
Hot and cold appetizers to be served at a reception on the lawn, from 12:30 P.M. to 2 P.M.;
Salad, entrée, and soup to be served course-by-course at tables in the tent, from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M.;
A dessert buffet bar to accompany a wedding cake (supplied by a specialty bakery of our selection); and
An open bar for the predinner reception and wine and champagne service during dinner.
We have contracted with Lumbertown Party Planners to provide for a tent, food preparation area, tables, and chairs. According to my contact there, Jerry Hudson, they have worked with your company in the past and would be able to coordinate their set-up and supplies with your needs.
Follow-up on bid for family event
From customer to business organization
We have received your bid to provide catering services for a wedding at my home.
You offered a steak and salmon option for entrees. Could you please also offer vegetarian and chicken dishes, and provide prices for those meals?
In addition, we are considering purchasing our own wine and champagne instead of selecting from your list of available bottles. Would you please provide a price that includes serving alcohol at the dinner in the tent?
Thank you for your assistance.

Please prepare a contract based on the selections indicated on the attached order form. We will provide all alcohol for the predinner reception and the dinner itself; we will require a bartender and servers for drinks and food.
Please also provide copies of current workers compensation and liability insurance as well as applicable state and local health department licenses.

I am writing to request a refund in the amount of $625 from the amount paid for the June 15 wedding reception and dinner served at my home by your company.
We ordered and paid for 100 lobster salads as an appetizer (at $6.25 per person). Instead, our guests were served an ordinary romaine and tomato salad.
Attached is a copy of the order form and contract for the dinner which clearly shows the charge for the lobster salad.
Requesting copy of old invoice or contract for tax purposes
From customer to business organization
I would appreciate a copy of the invoice for installation of an oil burner and tank at our residence in October of 2003. According to my bank, we issued checks totaling $8,250 to your company at that time.
We are requesting this information as part of the calculation of the cost basis for our home for tax purposes.
Asking new car dealer to bid for your business
From individual to automobile dealer
Barney Olds, sales manager
Lumbertown Auto Megamall
Dear Mr. Olds:
I want to purchase a new car, and I’d like to make the process as direct and painless as possible for me and for your dealership.
I am ready to buy a 2008 Haidatsu Quadrawheel XLT. I have attached a printout from Haidatsu’s Web site that shows a model fitted out with all of the equipment I would like; I am not interested in any additional add-ons such as pinstriping, undercoating, or special wheels. I will accept any available color, although my preference would be blue or red.
One other essential element of the bid: We will not accept a vehicle with any dealer’s logo attached to the body of the car.
According to my research, this model, as equipped in the printout, has a manufacturer’s suggested list price of $27,834, and the dealer’s invoice cost is $26,442. We are aware of several current manufacturer’s incentives to dealers, and therefore we would expect your selling cost to be at or below the “invoice” price.
I would like to hear from you with your best price for sale of this model. I’m not interested in spending a lot of time haggling or playing games: I am sending this same letter to several area Haidatsu dealers, and I plan on accepting the best offer.
I look forward to receiving your written or e-mailed bid; we will consider all offers received by 5 P.M. on Friday, August 15.
Responding to bid on purchase of new car
From individual to automobile dealer
Barney Olds, sales manager
Lumbertown Auto Megamall
Dear Mr. Olds:
I have received your e-mailed bid for the sale of a 2008 Haidatsu.
The model you have proposed to sell does not come close to matching the one I asked about in my previous letter. Among other things, we specified a four-wheel-drive model, and we do not have need for expensive gadgets like a GPS mapping system or chrome wheels.
I have attached a second copy of the specifications for the model we are interested in purchasing. If you are interested in bidding for our business, please respond in writing or by e-mail no later than 5 P.M. on Friday, August 15.
Responding to bid on purchase of new car, rejecting price
From individual to automobile dealer
Barney Olds, sales manager
Lumbertown Auto Megamall
Dear Mr. Olds:
We have received your bid for sale of 2008 Haidatsu Quadrawheel XLT.
In my original letter, I included the results of my research which showed that this model, as equipped in the printout, has a manufacturer’s suggested list price of $27,834 and a dealer’s invoice cost of $26,442.
We were expecting a bid close to or below the invoice price, taking into account several available manufacturer’s rebates to the dealer.
Your bid price was considerably higher than those we have received from other dealers in the area. At this time, we intend to accept an offer from another dealer unless you are interested in submitting a new bid that is much more competitively priced.
We will consider all offers received by 5 P.M. on Friday, August 15.

Barney Olds, sales manager
Lumbertown Auto Megamall
Dear Mr. Olds:
I am pleased to accept your bid for sale of a 2008 Haidatsu Quadrawheel XLT, priced at $26,441 and equipped as stated in your e-mail.
We will arrange for obtaining a title and license plates from the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Lumbertown; please exclude from the bill of sale the $150 charge for obtaining the title and plates.
Please prepare a bill of sale and registration papers based on the stated price plus the applicable 6 percent sales tax; we will pay exactly $28,027.46.
As stated in our original request for bids, please ensure that the vehicle does not include any dealer’s logo applied as a decal or attached metal plate. We will accept only a removable dealer’s license plate frame if you choose to offer one.
I look forward to hearing from you when the paperwork and the vehicle are ready for us.
Responding to bid on purchase of new car, considering financing
From individual to automobile dealer
Barney Olds, sales manager
Lumbertown Auto Megamall
Dear Mr. Olds:
I am pleased to accept your bid for sale of a 2008 Haidatsu Quadrawheel XLT, priced at $26,441 and equipped as stated in your e-mail.
In your e-mail you inquired about whether we would be interested in financing the vehicle through your dealership. We have been offered a rate of 6.5 percent for a forty-eight-month loan through the Lumbertown Automobile Association; if you can improve on that rate for the same term, we would be happy to consider obtaining a loan through your lender.
I look forward to hearing from you when the paperwork and the vehicle are ready for us.
Requesting information on available real estate properties
From individual to real estate agency
Bylow Real Estate
Neil’s Harbour, Nova Scotia
I am considering purchasing a vacation home in your area and would appreciate receiving listings of properties that meet my interests. My wife and I plan to spend two weeks in Nova Scotia in July and will be able to look at properties at that time, but we want to narrow down the possibilities before we make the trip.
Here is what we are looking for: a three- or four-bedroom house with a lake or ocean view and at least an acre of land. The home should be new, or a well-maintained and fully updated older home; we are not interested in a “fixer-upper” or a house that otherwise needs a lot of work before it can be occupied.
Based on my research, it appears that the price for homes of this sort in your area runs from about $400,000 to $1,000,000 (Canadian), and we are prepared to make an offer in that range.
We will be in contact after we have had a chance to review listings you send us by mail or e-mail.

For each of these properties, please provide the following additional information: current property taxes, the total of heating and electrical bills for the past twelve months, and details of any other special assessments or association costs.
We will be in touch before June 15 to set appointments. Please advise us if any other similar properties come on the market.
Thank you for your assistance.
Seeking proposals for real estate listing

Lumbertown Superior Properties
Lumbertown
I am considering putting my home up for sale in the next six months. The property, at 225 Rolling Meadow Drive in Lumbertown, is a well-maintained two-story contemporary house with five bedrooms and three bathrooms; it is set on an acre of land with sweeping views of Lake Lumbertown.
At this time I am interested in hearing proposals from area real estate agents about services they can offer to assist in the sale of my home. I’d also be interested in recommendations about the best time of year to place the home on the market and other suggestions to obtain the highest possible price.
Please call me to make an appointment to discuss the above questions.
Thank you.
Requesting analysis of long distance telephone usage and plan
From individual to communications company
Lumbertown Telephone and Telegraph Company
Lumbertown
Regarding account 7275550121-222
I am considering making a change to my long distance telephone plan, including the possibility of subscribing to a new plan with Lumbertown Telephone and Telegraph Company or changing to a new provider for some or all of my telephone service.
I would appreciate it if you would review my recent phone bills as an example of typical usage and make recommendations for any plans that would reduce my costs.
I note, as a point of comparison, an offer from the Lumbertown Cable Television Company that offers voice over Internet telephone service with unlimited local and long distance calls for $34.95 per month.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Requesting analysis of cell phone plan
From individual to communications company
Regarding account 7275550122
I have been a customer of Lumbertown Cellular for five years. In recent months, my cell phone bills have been higher than I expected when I first signed up for the plan, and I still own the same cell phone I purchased when I first signed up with your company.
I would appreciate it if you would review my recent cell phone bills and make recommendations for adjustments to the monthly plan that will result in a lower monthly cost.
As a point of comparison, I have been offered a plan from Z-Mobile Zellular that would give me a new digital phone, 1,000 minutes of service, and free nights and weekends for $45.99 per month.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Seeking bids from landscaping company
From individual to service provider
I am soliciting bids from area landscaping companies for lawnmowing, fertilizing, and trimming services for my property at 225 Rolling Meadow Drive in Lumbertown.
We have approximately half an acre of grass, and simple plantings along the exterior of the home. I am not interested at this time in a complete reworking of the landscaping for the property.
I look forward to receiving your bid for services. We expect to make a decision on a landscaping company by May 1.

Notice of intent to move, apartment lease
From individual to landlord
As required by the lease I signed on August 1, 2007, I am writing to inform you that I will be vacating Apartment 3A on July 31, 2008.
The apartment will be available for inspection beginning July 15.
Notice of intent to move before end of lease
From individual to landlord
As required by the lease I signed on August 1, 2007, I am writing to inform you that I will be vacating Apartment 3A on March 31, 2008.
I understand that because I will be leaving the apartment before the end of the term of the lease, I must pay a month’s advance rent and forfeit my security deposit as penalty.
The apartment will be available for inspection beginning March 15.
Asking for return of security deposit, apartment lease
From individual to landlord
It has now been thirty days since I vacated Apartment 3A at the end of my one-year lease. As required, the apartment was clean and all keys were returned.
As of this date, I have not yet received the return of my security deposit; according to terms of the lease, you hold $750 in an interest-bearing escrow account and the funds are to be returned to the lessee within thirty days after the end of the term.
I look forward to receiving the deposit soon.
Request for references about landlord
From individual to Better Business Bureau
I am considering entering into a lease at Evergreen Estates in Lumbertown.
I would like to know if your records include any complaints or judgments regarding Evergreen Estates Leasing Company or Roger Clement, owner of the company.
Thank you for your assistance.
Requesting change to proposed lease
From individual to landlord
Thank you for sending the application and proposed lease for the apartment. I enjoyed meeting you and I like the apartment very much.
I do have a few questions about the lease.
• Section 4 of the lease says that you can raise the rent at any time with thirty days notice. I’ve never seen this in a lease; I am perfectly willing to commit to pay you the agreed-upon monthly rental for twelve months, but I am concerned that I am being asked to sign a contract with a price that is undefined.
Can we change the lease to include a fixed monthly rent for the twelve-month period of the agreement?
• The lease says that I would be responsible for any damage caused by frozen pipes. I understand that it is my responsibility to maintain a proper level of heating in the apartment, and will do so. But can I make a small change to that section of the lease to add the words, “unless frozen pipes are caused by failure of the heating system”?
I hope you don’t mind my questions. I can see that you are a very careful landlord; I intend to be a very careful tenant.
Transmittal of signed lease and security deposit
From individual to landlord
Enclosed please find the signed lease for the apartment at 225 Rolling Meadow Drive in Eumonia. I look forward to moving in on June 1.
I have also included two checks. The first, #4253 in the amount of $1,000, is the refundable security deposit for the apartment, and according to the lease it is to be deposited in an interest-bearing savings account with quarterly reports supplied to me. The second, #4254 in the amount of $750, is the first month’s rent for the apartment.
I am very excited about the apartment, and look forward to a successful year (or more) in Eumonia.
Notice of intent to sublet apartment
From individual to landlord
I am writing to notify you that I will be subletting my apartment for the summer while I am traveling out of the country. The apartment will be occupied in July and August by Marv Chapin, a graduate student at Lumbertown Community College.
Under terms of the lease, I am attaching the executed sublease contract signed by Mr. Chapin along with the required $100 check for such amendments to the principal lease.
I understand that as the signatory to the original lease it remains my responsibility to pay the monthly rent for the term of the lease, and I have made arrangements to do so. Further, I have made it clear to Mr. Chapin that he is to otherwise follow all of the terms of the lease for the two months he will occupy the apartment.
Notice of intent to vacate apartment at end of lease
From individual to landlord
My lease for Apartment 3 at 225 Rolling Meadow Drive in Eumonia expires on May 31, and I have decided to move to a location closer to my place of work in Lumbertown. Therefore, under terms of the lease, I am giving the required thirty-day advance notice that I will not be renewing the agreement.
I have enjoyed the apartment very much, and I have found you to be a responsible and cooperative landlord. Thank you for your consideration over the past year.
Notice of intent to vacate apartment before end of lease
From individual to landlord
I regret to inform you that I must vacate my apartment at 225 Rolling Meadow Drive in Eumonia on April 30, one month before the end of the lease.
I am moving back east to take care of personal matters.
I understand that under terms of the lease, the landlord is entitled to keep, as liquidated damages, $25 per day up to a maximum of $750 as a penalty for the early termination of the lease.
You currently hold my security deposit, which now amounts to about $1,045 with accumulated interest, and I understand that the termination fee will be deducted from this amount. I would appreciate return of the remaining funds of about $295 as soon as possible; my new mailing address is listed on this letterhead.
I have enjoyed the apartment very much, and I have found you to be a responsible and cooperative landlord. Thank you for your consideration over the past year.
