Day 3
How Do You Feel About Money?
(Part 1)
Yesterday you learned how your thoughts have a direct influence on your circumstances. Today we are going to explore how you currently feel toward money.
It’s a good idea to be in a safe, quiet place as you read this chapter. This is your opportunity to really get to the heart of what has been holding you back.
You may think that you wish to be rich, but deep down you may feel that being rich is an unsafe place to be. You may have an opinion that rich people can attract jealousy, theft, disloyalty, and superficial friends. Maybe it feels much safer for you to stay within a certain income level, where you are less exposed to potential attack. The word “money” can provoke quite extreme reactions in some people. Many people see a straight choice between being poor and spiritual or being rich and selfish. They flinch at the very mention of “money.” It is seen as a dirty and even vulgar subject. I received some of this type of negative feedback on first launching my “How to Become a Money Magnet!” workshops.
When I’m delivering a workshop or a talk on becoming a Money Magnet, I often start by congratulating the audience for publicly declaring their desire for more money. After all, if you cannot happily admit to yourself that you wish to be a Money Magnet, you will have a long way to go before you start to attract more money.
Money Is an Emotional Subject
As we are delving into the emotional connection you have with money, I’ll be inviting you to take a good hard look at how you really feel toward money. Your feelings are a clue to your unconscious beliefs. Once you uncover your unconscious blocks to wealth, you will be in a much better position to remove them.
Understanding that everything around us is energy, vibrating at different levels, and that like attracts like, you now need to find out how you are currently vibrating on the subject of money. Once you understand your vibration (thoughts and beliefs) about money, you are then in a position to change the frequency.
In all the exercises that follow it is crucial to be open and honest with yourself. Take the first answer that comes to you and write it down immediately, no matter how strange it may sound to you. It may bring up some emotion for you. You may feel sadness or anger. You may even shed some tears. That’s OK. It takes courage to confront your beliefs around money, so be kind and gentle with yourself. It is only by facing up to your old beliefs about money that you can start to transform them into more empowering beliefs. It is then that you can become a Money Magnet.
Exercise: Touching the Money
This exercise is one that I have used with great success at the “How to Become a Money Magnet!” workshops. It originally came from some of the people on the workshop and it makes an excellent opener to the tricky subject of money. It can also take you straight to your core beliefs about money.
I am going to ask you four questions.
Before I do so, please can you make sure that you are in a comfortable seated position, where you cannot easily be distracted. Take out a banknote and hold it in your non-writing hand. Have a pen and a blank sheet of paper to hand.
Take three deep breaths and allow your whole body to relax. Clear your mind of any distractions from the day and be still. When you are totally clear and ready, ask yourself the first question and then immediately write down anything that comes into your mind, no matter how ridiculous it may sound.
At your own pace, progress through the four questions. Make sure that you “clear” your mind and relax fully in between each question. This is a contemplative exercise and should not be rushed.
Are you ready?
Question 1: Money, how do I really feel about you?
Question 2: Money, how do I treat you?
Question 3: Money, how can I have more of you?
Question 4: What else would you like to tell me, money?
OK, how was that for you? Did you uncover any surprises or interesting insights about your feelings toward money? If not, it doesn’t matter. Just doing this exercise in itself opens you to the possibility of attracting more money.
If you are not sure whether you have done the exercise correctly, don’t worry. There are no correct answers. Just allow your answers to come from your heart rather than your head. This is not an intellectual exercise. Whatever you have written is a reflection of your thoughts around money. It is your truth. However, to give you some examples, here are my answers from the very first time I did this exercise many years ago.
Question 1: Money, How Do I Really Feel About You?
“Money is disposable, purple, glittering silver, precious, loved, plentiful, not to be defaced or abused, handled by many.”
Question 2: Money, How Do I Treat You?
“With love and respect, with joy, with gratitude, with pride; carelessly at times; sometimes I’m too boastful about you or too trusting.”
Question 3: Money, How Can I Have More of You?
“Smile more, go out more, love more, give more, share more. I need to believe in you; rejoice for life is plentiful; plan to have more of you, accept you, greet you like a good friend.”
Question 4: What Else Would You Like to Tell Me, Money?
“Don’t be afraid of having more; you are good enough. Think big. Give big. Accept big rewards. I am good, I am a thank you, I am holy, I am love. Love is energy and you have lots of it.”
Remember, the above responses are just examples, not instructions. You will find your own words and inspiration. You will uncover your own truths about money.
With this initial exercise you are starting to tap into what you really think about money. Of course, the tricky bit, as you have already learned, is that at least 80 per cent of your thoughts are subconscious.
Remember, while you may consciously wish to be rich, your subconscious may hold what it considers to be good evidence that being rich doesn’t actually make you happy. In such an example, your subconscious is keeping you from being unhappy. Your subconscious thoughts could be “protecting” you from feeling rich!
Tomorrow you will uncover more about your current thought patterns on money, so that you can change them as quickly as possible.
The money is already there. The only thing preventing you from being rich is you.
