After talking to the fellas at the reunion, I did some much needed soul searching and started attending service at a local church that one of my career counselors, Ms. Walters from my neighborhood work force agency, recommended. I went that following Sunday and took Cameron and Chantel with me, although Jena had to work due to her new schedule. Midway through the sermon, I started to reflect on all that I had been through in the past year and how I’d made it through each and every storm.
Then, as the pastor began to preach, he said, "you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you." Those words stood out because it felt like he was talking directly to me. He also said, "don't just be hearers of the Word but also doers of the Word." Now after hearing that, it was enough confirmation to let me know that all I had to do was believe, put the forth effort, and then to achieve, simply trust God.
The very next day, I was at home, sitting in my favorite chair, waiting on the phone to ring. I was praying to God that someone would call me with a job offer, because at that point, it had begun to weigh on me. I was getting more frustrated in passing weeks as I struggled to find employment but still there were no call backs. I admit, for a moment, I’d stopped believing in His word and got angry and even frustrated with God. Then, suddenly, Jena texted me out of the blue. The message read: God is good, but I just laughed in disagreement.
To show you how God operates, just when I was about to give up all hope and go out and do something stupid, my sweet Jesus, my Jehovah Jireh, my provider came through. His heavenly blessings rained on me at what seemed to be in the nick of time. I'm talking about, by His grace, the phone rang and Ms. Walters informed me that’d she found a full-time position paying more than my old job. Plus, it was closer to my house. I yelled at the top of lungs, "thank you Jesus!” and then quickly questioned, “when do I start?"
I went in for the interview the day after, and a week later, I got a letter from the company saying not only did they wanted to bring me aboard but were increasing my pay rate $2 above the initial offer. I almost dropped the phone when I got the news. All I could say to myself was 'prayer does change things.'
