The women delivered a few more rounds of kicks and punches to Jesse for refusing to let them put a straw in his mouth. Janet ripped the tape off his face and tried to force his mouth open but couldn’t.
“Knock him out. I’ll get this shit down his throat one way or another!”
“Wait, Mom, listen! The police scanner is dispatching patrol units to this address. We have to get out of here!”
“Damn cops! Grab all the supplies you bought this morning and back up the van. We’ll make short work of this piece of shit detective once we get out of the area. Nobody will ever be able to identify Jesse McCord when we get done with him.”
Janet grabbed another wine bottle and swung. With his eyes taped and hands and feet bound, Jesse couldn’t block the blow. He fell unconscious while blood dripped from his drooping head.
After grabbing a knife from the block, Janet sliced through the tape that secured him to the radiator, then she ran down the hall and got a blanket to put around him. With Jesse flat on the floor, she waited for Gail to reappear.
“Hurry! We need to cover him up and toss him in the back of the van. We don’t have much time.”
The two women rolled him in the blanket and dragged him to the door. Gail jumped inside the van and pulled while Janet pushed from the doorway. With the cop safely tucked inside, Gail yelled to her mother to grab their purses, phones, and laptop. She dove in behind the wheel as soon as Janet reappeared.
“Climb in the back and keep your eyes on him. Club him with the tire iron if he starts coming to.” Gail shifted into Drive and peeled out of the parking lot.
Two squad cars with lights flashing and sirens blaring passed them a block away.
Janet yelled out from the back of the van. “That was close! Head northwest out of the city. We’ll find a remote location where we’ll finish him off.”
