About the Author and Translator

Inquisitive and often on the road, RACHEL HAUSFATER has lived in Germany, the United States, and Israel plying various trades. Today, in addition to writing, Rachel Hausfater is an English teacher at a school in Bobigny, France. A translator and author for Thierry Magnier publishing, she wrote a novel in 2009, Un soir j’ai divorcé de mes parents (The Night I Divorced My Parents).

ALISON L. STRAYER’s translation of Annie Ernaux’s The Years won her, in tandem with the author, both the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation and the French-American Translation Prize and was shortlisted for the International Man Booker Prize. Strayer’s translation of Infidels by Abdellah Taïa was longlisted for the Albertine Prize, and her co-translation of Rencontres fortuites by Mavis Gallant was shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award for Translation. Strayer’s novel, Jardin et prairie, was shortlisted for Canada’s Governor General’s Award for Literature and the Grand Prix du livre de Montreal. She lives in Paris.
