Total Peace

War in the old sense was also a cultural phenomenon. It corresponded to the natural being of settled man — that not only Borges118 or Jünger, or Homer or Clausewitz would affirm. The goal of peace is a humane action of the mind, but when its price is loss, and indeed all cultural losses as we know them today, the clan of pen pushers behind the scenes grows, and quite legally at that. The look and the attitude of those who guaranteed the art of life in old reports of the past became laughable in the evolution of this future. Life that does not become art will not have been. But I mean here art in which conscience and honor were as important as bravery and courage, like the strictness of a country gentleman against any damaging of nature, comparable to a poetic meter. It is not nuclear death that threatens the eternal peace of our reality, but death via respiratory failure due to the invention of rockets and neutron acceleration, along with social security. Instead of the earlier heroic deeds that cost us the normal energies, this stands now as a criminal energy of latent world destruction. There will be no more war in the eternal peace without a victory. Everything will be different — as races once were differentiated, different from class differences — among those who no longer defend their life, house or wife and child. Men will be altered. In Israel, people come from the same traditions and worlds of Europe, and are mixed with those from other worlds and traditions. Independently of questions of right, they stand daily in war. And the art that grows out of it, that becomes culture? That is a long road of questions and answers.

As they used to oppress people, overran the continents with their religions, Christians against Heathens, or higher against lower, countries against countries, lower against higher, black against red, red against white, cross against star, so now they are united in peace, as they call the war of the present, which better guarantees their exploitation of Nature. War rages. A total war of man against plants and animals and the elements. And there they are all united knowing that it is against themselves, unstoppable, barbaric, finally free with the understanding of their reason, and more than any war-like tyrant ever persecuted his enemies. War victors, a harmless term. Self-destructive, avaricious, self-enriching and visibly merciless. But daring to call this process peace-loving and enlightened and social and democratic, and thus popular, belongs to those lies whose uncovering they punish worse than tyrants their murderers. And if art went along with it thus far, always ahead in the representation and expiation of this warlike Nature, it is an honor for it really if, shouting and spluttering, it becomes powerless here. This freedom is the last honor against the total war of obliteration of Nature leading to one’s own downfall.
